Why we plan outages

Why we plan outages

Have you ever received a notification from the folks here at Petit Jean Electric Cooperative informing you of a “planned outage?” You may have wondered, “What is a planned outage?” and “Why do they need to turn my power off?” The answer is to safely provide reliable electric service. Occasionally, the equipment we use to bring power to your home needs to be replaced, repaired or updated. When this happens, as a way to keep our crews and our members safe, we plan an interruption of electric service in order to perform the necessary maintenance.

We do our best to plan these outages during times when you will be least inconvenienced, so we often perform planned outages during the middle of the night or early morning hours. We try to schedule these outages during the best weather conditions for everyone affected, but unfortunately that is not always possible.

While they may sound slightly inconvenient, planned outages are actually beneficial to you, our member. Regular system upgrades are necessary for optimal performance, and they increase reliability. Repairing and upgrading our equipment is also critical to maintaining public safety.

Planned outages and scheduled maintenance also allows us to keep you informed of when and approximately how long you will be without power.

Here at Petit Jean Electric Cooperative, we constantly strive to provide our members with safe, reliable and affordable electric service. So, the next time you hear about a planned outage, either by phone call, Facebook or local radio, know that it is one of the most effective ways we can provide you with the quality of electric service that you know and deserve.
