High speed internet service and system reliability requires many hands

We have a lot going on at Petit Jean Electric. Maintaining system reliability and providing the services our members need requires many hands in the field. As we continue to work towards building our members a high-speed, fiber to the home (FTTH) network we ask that you be patient with our crews as they make their way across the system.

As part of Petit Jean Electric’s work to maintain the reliability of our electric distribution system, Petit Jean Electric crews as well as numerous other contract crews will have to access every pole and structure on the system. This means that our crews will be on your property from time to time. Please don’t threaten them or impede their work – these are local folks trying to do a good job for you.

You might see a co-op employee or contractor checking poles, changing poles or hanging wire, gathering information on a computer as well as conducting right-of-way maintenance. These dedicated employees are there doing their part so that you enjoy safe, reliable and affordable electric service AND in the very near future world-class, high speed internet access through Petit Jean Fiber.

We try to give advance notice of the work when we will be working on your property, however, it is very difficult to reach every member every time we need access to our facilities. We certainly respect everyone’s property and privacy and will only be on the premises in order to complete the necessary work. Our employees will be clearly identified with the Petit Jean Electric logo and decals on their uniforms and vehicles. Authorized contractors will be identified with their logo and decals as well. Every crew will have identification upon request.

If you have any questions about the credentials of any employee or contractor working on your property, contact us.

Examples of the work we must do to maintain our system and provide internet service includes:

  • Inspections of poles and repairs/replacement if needed.
  • Data and inventory collection for mapping and system design.
  • Meter replacement.
  • Maintaining vegetation in rights-of-way.
  • Repairs, upgrades to wires, transformers and other equipment.

This work is usually conducted during normal working hours, Monday through Friday, with the exception of emergency power restoration. Occasionally, our contractors will work on the weekends in order to keep up with their rigorous work schedules. We apologize for any inconveniences this work may cause, but please understand that all of these efforts are put forth so that you continue to experience affordable and reliable electricity when you need it.
