Petit Jean Fiber Connects 1,000th Customer!

Petit Jean Fiber officially hit a big milestone in October when we connected our 1,000th customer just eight months after beginning installations!

We’re so happy to have Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Valentine and hundreds of other members of Petit Jean Electric Cooperative join the fiber movement.  To celebrate the occasion, General Manager/CEO of Petit Jean Electric Cooperative and Petit Jean Fiber Michael Kirkland presented the Valentines with an iPad. We are proud and excited to see the positive impact fiber is bringing to this community!

Mrs. Valentine stated that she was very thankful to be getting this service from Petit Jean. “I loved the speed of downloading and how easy it was to hook everything up,” she said.

“We all recognize the critical necessity of high-speed internet for everyday life, and we are thrilled to reach this milestone,” Kirkland said. “We are grateful for – but not surprised by – your support for this massive project. When complete, this world-class broadband network will have the potential to change our communities forever, and all of us at Petit Jean Electric and Petit Jean Fiber feel privileged to play a part.”

On that note, our work continues in building the high-speed fiber internet project. Here’s an update on what else is happening and what’s ahead:

Our open zones keep coming!

Speaking of milestones, just this past month, we opened our final zone from our Bee Branch substation and are currently opening zones from our Damascus substation, serving areas in green on the map. We are excited to share that we will be wrapping up our fiber splicing in Quitman by late October into early November.

Benefits of Fiber Internet

Choosing an internet service can be tough when every provider has different promises for different prices. Why is fiber internet the best option? The answer is easy: Fiber internet provides amazing speed with incredible reliability.

Petit Jean Fiber, powered by Petit Jean Electric Cooperative, can provide internet that is faster and more reliable than both cable and DSL. This extremely fast speed is achieved by using fiber optic lines to deliver data to and from your devices at the speed of light. Fiber optic cables are made up of small flexible strands of glass whose signal is transmitted by light waves instead of electricity. This allows fiber optic lines to withstand electrical surges and to be resistant to weather changes like temperature and moisture.

How will this affect my daily life?

  1. Entertainment. Fiber internet provides the ability to stream super high definition and 4K video, participate in virtual reality and real-time online gaming, watch your favorite online videos and connect via social media platforms and video calls.
  2. Lower latency. Fiber internet allows for a connection with less lag time, providing a seamless experience when performing daily activities like online gaming, videoconferencing, stock trading or any activity where high speeds bring a better overall experience.
  3. Connecting multiple devices. The number of connected devices in a household continuously rises every year along with internet usage. With other internet technologies reaching their limit, fiber has just gotten started. Fiber’s unique technology leaves room for growth with data and speed, so no matter the number of devices, fiber is ready!
  4. Boosting businesses. The quick speeds and unmatched reliability make fiber the best choice for any business, especially fastgrowing companies that need an internet that can grow with them. Fiber internet’s bandwidth capabilities also make it ideal to quickly access data and applications stored in the cloud. Lastly, fiber internet can only be penetrated by cutting through the fiber-optic cable, which causes the signal to disappear. This provides businesses with an extra security measure for their sensitive information.
