Electric Rate Update
Effective for bills mailed on or after April 29, 2025
Petit Jean Electric Cooperative has updated its electric rates as part of a statewide regulatory process. These changes were reviewed and approved by the Arkansas Public Service Commission (APSC) following a detailed cost-of-service study (COSS) by Toth and Associates. The Petit Jean Board of Directors requested this study to take a closer look at each rate class and the costs involved in serving them. The goal was to ensure our rates are fair and accurately reflect the true cost of delivering electric service to our members.
Here’s what’s changing:
- Monthly Service Charge (this is a flat fee that helps cover the basic costs of delivering electricity to the home, no matter how much energy you use that month):
This is going down from $35 to $31 per month. This helps offset some of the slight increase in the per-kilowatt-hour energy rate.
- Per kWh Energy Charge (this is based on how much electricity you use):
- Summer months: Going from 10.329¢ to 10.967¢ per kWh
- Winter months:
- First 500 kWh: 9.306¢ → 9.894¢
- Over 500 kWh: 8.028¢ → 8.608¢
For example:
If you use 1,000 kWh in a month, your monthly bill will go up approximately $2.40.
Other Rate Classes Affected:
There are also adjustments for:
- Three Phase Service
- Large Power Users
- Outdoor Lighting and Streetlights
- Contract Rates also have adjustments.

Why Are Rates Changing?
These updates help us continue delivering safe, reliable service to all our members. The recommended rate changes provide a way to cover higher power supply costs from our wholesale power supplier, Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation.
The actual impact on your bill will depend on how much electricity you use and the type of service you have.
Last January, we shared the updated rate schedule approved by the Board of Directors. The adjustments were thoroughly reviewed and approved by the APSC over a nine-month period.
